From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.
